Which door would you choose?

Today is getting crazy, and I want to be sure to get a post in today, so this is going to be a short one for me. But hopefully thought provoking and fun:

Narnia, Neverland, Wonderland, Hogwarts, Camelot, Middle Earth or Westeros - which would you choose?

Which door do you go through?

I had to look up “Westeros”, I missed A Song of Fire and Ice series.

Never read the Harry Potter series, though I saw one movie and it was fun.

I am also embarassed to admit I have never read Tales of Narnia or Lord of the Rings. I know, shame on me.

That leaves me with Neverland, Wonderland and Camelot.

I’d probably start mothering the Lost Boys out of instinct.

And I would definately b-slap the Queen of Hearts so that leaves me with:

In short, there’s simply not
A more congenial spot
For happily-ever-aftering than here
In Camelot.

Why that door? I have always loved the Arthurian legend and its many tellings. I can’t even see the word Camelot without thinking of the musical with Richard Burton and Julie Andrews or Richard Harris and Vanessa Williams – can’t choose which I like better!

Then there was Excaliber, with a bunch of nobodies (Helen Mirren, Gabriel Byrne, Liam Neeson, Patrick Stewart), well in 1981 they were pretty much nobodies in the US.

A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur’s Court is my favorite Mark Twain book. I devoured Mists of Avalon as a teenager and enjoyed the Julianna Marguiles mini-series version as well.

What happens? I would head straight for Avalon to become a Priestess of the Mother Goddess. Did I mention how much I loved Mists of Avalon?

I think I need to download that on the Kindle and reread it.

So, what about you? which door do you choose and why?

  1. Wow!! Cool post! I definitely would want to go to Hogwarts first!!!

  2. What an awesome exercise!

For me it would be a toss up between Middle Earth and Hogwarts. Although being human in Middle Earth might not be that much fun, now that I think about it. I'm assuming I wouldn't magically be a race other than human when I arrive there, but who knows? Unless I could be Gandalf. That would be ok. 😛

Otherwise Hogwarts would be awesome, because it's set in modern time. No worries about being female and the diffulties that would present in stories set in a different era. Plus there's the added bonus of indoor plumbing, which should never be underestimated.

I love your reasons for choosing Camelot! I also enjoyed reading Mists of Avalon a million years ago. I'd almost forgotten that book. Guess it's time to revisit it.

Thanks so much for sharing this.

  3. What a thought provoking exercise. Neverland for sure! And I'm bring the kids with me so they'll stay little and never grow up!

  4. I also wrote about Harry Potter today so I guess I'd choose Hogwarts. There weren't too many roles for women in Middle Earth as I recall, ditto for Neverland. And Wonderland would just be too confusing – all that growing taller and then shrinking.

  5. Great post – would check out Neverland first – I love the whole Peter Pan and pirates story. Narnia and Hogwarts woudl be next on my list and then Wonderland!!!

  6. I would love to go to Hogwarts! Then again, I'm a Harry Potter nerd. 🙂 Who doesn't want to perform magic and ride around on a broomstick? !! 🙂

  7. I have to refamiliar myself with all of those! I love your version .. mind if I tagged along?

    Thanks for linking up! 😀

  8. You are a lady after my own heart!! The Mists of Avalon is one of my absolute favorite stories and if that door were an option I’d head straight there too!

Thanks for linking up with from the archives friday! This post will be one of our featured favorites for the upcoming party 😀

    1. Oh thank you for featuring me. I had a lot of fun thinking about all of the places, and I still need to read a few of these.
