    Blog #200!

    Nov 24, 2013 · Leave a Comment

I feel like I should make this blog more exciting, but I was in get it done mode today and this blog entry is going to end up the victim of my time crunch. All of those annoying little things that had been on my to do list for awhile were going to get accomplished, or so I hoped! Which of course led to more tasks.

I finally fixed the hangers on the painting my mother-in-law painted for J before he was born and got it rehung in his room - time spent 10 minutes. Most of that was spent trying to hang it by myself, not easy with a big painting.

Then I decided that J is five years old and it was time to finally take down the gates on the stairs. Five minutes and no tools to take them down. Okay, I left the hardware up on the top of the stairs one. But it is still faster than the HOURS we spent assembling, finding studs and finally installing the two gates. This task necessitated cleaning the stairs and, eventually, to touching up the paint, (but I am ignoring that second one for now).

Next, I needed to find a place in the garage for the gates, in case I can ever convince my husband we NEED a dog, sigh. Someday, maybe.

While storing the gates I found some wood pieces I wanted use to make some outdoor Christmas decorations. So I sawed them, which lead to a pile of saw dust that needed to be swept up. Then I rummaged through my leftover paint containers to see if I could make green.

I didn't find the Antique Gold wall color to touch up the paint on the stairwell, but I did find the obnoxiously bright orange Toasted Apricot that the previous owners had painted the laundry room (and my husband and I repainted a more mellow peach tone as soon as we got the keys to the house). Mixed that with some teal from the front door and came up with a greenish color. I haven't looked at since it dried, but I probably need to buy some other green paint. I have to get the Antique Gold for the stairwell anyway...

And so it continued, one little task done and two more added in its place all day. Kind of like my "If You Give a Mom a Muffin Day".

But the picture is rehung and the gates are down. Which is throwing me off every time I walk up or down the stairs - it seems so much bigger without the barricades at top and bottom. And I keep reaching to open or close it every time I walk by. They have been up for over 4 years, old habits die hard I guess.

I hope your day was more exciting. Happy 200th blog to me!
