I spent the better part of my day trying to figure out how to get my Windows 7 computer to install Service Pack 1 and all of the updates including Internet Explorer 10. The directions on Microsoft's website left something to be desired, but I eventually figured it out with some help from a few third party websites.
Had I posted my question on the trouble I was having on Facebook, at least one of my friends would have been compelled to respond with either of the following:
- Should have bought a Mac in the first place
- Just throw it out and buy a Mac.
Neither response would have been remotely helpful. If I had asked if I should buy a Windows based computer or Mac (or an iPhone versus Samsung Galaxy or an iPad versus a Kindle or Nexus) then stating you love your Apple product would have been an appropriate response. Instead, making a snarky comment when I am trying to get help for a product you don't own or like makes me think you are an arrogant jerk.
Is it in the End User Agreement that thou shalt tout the benefits of Apple at every opportunity or be haunted by the ghost of Steve Jobs? Do you get some kind of cash rewards for doing it?
I know not every Apple user does it. But, there are enough that do that I have no desire to ever own an Apple product for fear of turning into a Rhinoceros.

I've owned Macs since I was 21 (a long time ago!) and still love them but I agree that would be an unhelpful comment, the equivalent of posting about a cake that didn't rise and having someone suggest you throw out your electric stove and convert to gas instead. Hmmmm.
I hope you finally got the software installed. A computer not working properly is frustrating - regardless of whether it's a Mac or a PC!
Good luck!

Awesome analogy! I could not come up with one.
My gripe isn't with Apple or their products.
It is with the zealots that feel the need to share their enthusiasm for Apple products ad nauseum.
And yes, I got my problem fixed as well as updating my husband's which took more effort. A bit sick of being the household IT Manager lately.
