    Thanks Mom!

    Feb 28, 2013 · 3 Comments

The last time I colored my hair was before Thanksgiving, I think. The last time I had it cut was, uh, let me think, uh, sometime well before November. I vaguely remember I wanted to get it cut before Thanksgiving but there wasn't time. There never seems to be time for me to get my hair cut, which is why my lovely mother stepped in and got me a gift certificate for a real salon cut and color for Christmas. And the place is right across from her apartment so we could have lunch afterwards - convenient isn't it? tee hee.

I finally went yesterday. Two months after the fact, I finally found a few hours I could go take care of me.  What do you think? Did I need to go?

The color is now back to its original dark brown color (minus the grey). Yes, friends and family my hair is really dark brown. It just happens to naturally lighten the instant I set foot in the sun, and then throw in the chlorine/sun combo from swimming year round and I can see how you might have been fooled into thinking it was lighter. But, now I need to remember to wear a hat when I go out in the sun. At least I will have a bike helmet on 3 days a week, that one I never forget.

Normally, I am a Great Clips kind of gal. I am cheap, I want it done quickly, and I hate to spend money/time on myself. Hence, my mother had to interfere for me to do this. So, how did the "salon experience" compare? For the most part it was nice. I tried to just relax and go with the flow. The stylist was nice and we had a friendly chat, mostly about my mother. She also does her hair, and can testify that she does not have her hair colored (nyah!), but its thin, unlike mine. And we chatted about blogging and my son and her kids and assorted other small talk kind of things.

Unfortunately, my inner peace was disturbed not too long after I sat down by a young 20 something  getting her hair done near me. She prattled incessantly about "my man".  I am not exaggerating - she said "my man" at least 200 times while I was there (minimum 2-3 times a minute for an hour and a half!). His kid was referred to by name, want to know it? She mentioned him quite a few times. As was "the ex-wife", and even her name was uttered once or twice. But, apparently, "my man" does not have a name and does not mind being objectified by her. Somehow, I am willing to bet that if he called her "my woman" she'd go ballistic. But, whatevah!

Back to me! So, now I have a new style for a woman on the go and the hairbands are banished for at least a few months since it is almost too short for my usual throw it in a ponytail and run hairdo.

If I didn't remember to say it at lunch yesterday - THANKS MOM! Sorry our lunch had to be so short, but it takes a loooooong time to have your hair colored. Not that you would know. 🙂 Really Uncle Clark and Uncle Stony, she wouldn't know.

You look beautiful! And you looked great before. I need to get mine done someday too. I know exactly how that "someday" gets away.

Cute and healthy looking! My hair could really use some attention. I have had so many bad experiences that I am afraid to go so I just wear my hair up all the time : P
