25 ideas for Rose petals: crafts, beauty and edibles

Published: Jul 2, 2026 by Audrey · This post may contain affiliate links.

Do you have rose bushes? Or maybe someone gave you a bouquet of roses and you are looking for a sentimental way to preserve the memories.

Here are 25 ideas using rose petals for crafts, beauty treatments and edible ingredients.

    rose petals in a bowl

I have two rose bushes, one Julia Child yellow rose and a wild red rose that appeared in my yard one year. Considering it is right next to a fence, a bird probably dropped a rose hip from someone else's yard while sitting on the fence.

    Rose petals versus Dried Roses

This list specifically focuses on rose petals, instead of dried roses. This let's you enjoy the full bloom of the rose and still use the petals. Once the rose has bloomed the petals tend to fall off. This shadowbox display is still one of my favorite projects for dried whole roses.

Some ideas use fresh rose petals, while most call for dried. To dry them place in a single layer on a flat surface in a place they won't be disturbed. It usually only takes a day or two. I usually use a tray or baking sheet.

If you don't have roses, you can also purchase dried whole roses or rose petals to use for any of these items.

    rose petal Crafts

    Potpourri

Potpourri is my usual go to. I have a jar of petals and a potpourri ball in my rose themed bathroom. The balls and sachets are great in lingerie drawers and linen closets.

Homemade Potpourri: Put the petals in a pretty bowl or jar. If the petals do not have a strong scent you can add a few drops of essential oils.

Potpourri Sachets: Instead of putting the potpourri in a bowl or jar, put them in a sachet bag like these.

Potpourri Balls: Or put the potpourri into a doily lined with netting tied with ribbon to make a potpourri ball.

If you have different colored roses you could make some pretty designs.

Rose Petal Candle from Homestead How To

Use the petals in homemade candles. The post has plenty of safety tips, so be sure to read the entire post if you have never made candles before.

Rose Petal Tray from Say Yes

Isn't this lovely?! There is a coating of epoxy protecting the flowers and keeping them on the tray while still being food safe.

Homemade Paper by Munofore (that's me!)

Mix some rose petals into the paper pulp before drying.

    Rose Beads from Megan Spencer

These took a little experimentation to get the size right, but they have a lovely scent when rubbed. I haven't made anything with the beads, but I plan on a bracelet or necklace when I have enough. Though this rosary is inspirational.

    rose petal Beauty treatments

Use rose petals to create beauty products to care for your skin. You probably want to go with organically grown rose petals for any of these, unless you want to spread pesticide on your skin.

    Rose Powder

Simply dry the roses and grind into a powder. Use it as a blush

Rose Petal Face Scrub from Strangers and Pilgrims on Earth

Grind the dry ingredients together then mix with oil and honey for a wonderful smelling exfoliant for the face.

    Sugar Scrub from That Recipe

Instead of the lavender and rosemary in the original recipe use rose petals. I keep a jar of sugar scrub in the kitchen to help remove crafting paint and glue, gardening dirt and cooking odors from my hands. Scrubs off the yuck and leaves my hands smelling nice.

Aloe Rose Skin Soothing Gel from the Nerdy Farm Wife

Combine the soothing properties of aloe vera and roses for a lovely healing balm.

    Rose Bath Bomb from Kateable

Drop one of these in your bath for an aromatic soak.

Rose Milk Bath Mix from Munofore

Swap the rose petals for the tea in this recipe.

Rose Face Mask from A Better Way to Thrive

Treat your face with this lovely rose scented clay mask.

    Rose Infused Oil from Kateable

This oil can be used for massages, a light perfume, bath oil, and more.

    Rose Water from Garden Therapy

Rose Water is used as an ingredient in both beauty treatments and food and drink. Making it yourself is easy.

Rose Lotion Bars from The Nerdy Farm Wife

Combine rose oil with beeswax and other emollients to make lotion bars.

Rose Petal Lip Balm from My Baking Addiction

Soften your lips with this rose infused balm.

    Edibles with rose petals

Roses taste like they smell. Adding roses to recipes give them a lovely floral infusion.

ONLY use organic rose petals or those specifically labelled for culinary use.

Rose Liqueur from All Things Sicilian

I have made plenty of different liqueurs in my day, but never rose flavored. That will change soon.

    Rose Sugar from Skovkear

Rose sugar is a wonderful way to sweeten and flavor drinks like tea.

Rose Simple Syrup from Baste Cut Fold

If you want to sweeten cold drinks like iced tea and lemonade, simple syrup mixes in better than the rose sugar above.

Candied Rose Petals from Emily Laurae

Decorate cakes and other baked goods with candied rose petals. Easy and impressive decoration.

    Rose Infused Honey from Kateable

Instead of sugar, use honey. Rose infused honey in all the things.

Rose Vinegar from The Nerdy Farm Wife

Instead of sweet, go tangy. Rose vinegar would be fabulous in a salad dressing. It also has many health and beauty uses.

Rose Petal Jelly from Creative Homemaking

This jelly would be amazing on some scones for tea time.

Rose Petal Ice Cubes from Milk Free Mom

How pretty would these ice cubes be in mocktails and cocktails? Especially for a bridal shower or tea party.

    Which are you making first?

Besides the ones I had already made before compiling this list, I had a hard time choosing which to make first (it was the beads). But, the next one will be the rose liqueur when my red wild roses are blooming again.

Which one are you going to try first?
