Create a Winter Wonderland in a silver mug to decorate your home for the holidays. You can easily adapt the idea to suit your decorating style from "minimalist" to "cozy cabin" to "vintage".
This project comes together in about 10 minutes, making it a great last-minute gift idea for teachers, hairstylists, neighbors, etc.

This cute little decoration was given to me by a woman who runs a charity thrift shop. A coworker in the shop creates decorations with items in the shop for them to sell.
I adore the silver and white simplicity of the design. If I want, the Joyeux Noel sign can be pulled out to use it as a winter display after Christmas. Which is nice because the house feels so empty after I put away the Christmas decorations.
I had to deconstruct it a bit to find out how it was made. It was the crepe paper ruffle that I wasn't sure about until I looked at it closely.
Head to a thrift store, or your own personal stash, and find a cup, bowl or plate to use as the base. Mix up the colors to match your own personal decorating style.
Supplies
This is what was used to create the project in the photos. Use it as inspiration to create your own Winter Wonderland.
- silver mug
- mini sisal trees
- crepe paper (or tissue paper)
- toothpick or wooden craft pick
- card stock
- scissors
- printer
- glue gun and glue sticks (or craft glue)
- styrofoam (optional)
Instructions
I'm sure you can figure out the basic assembly just by looking at the finished product:
- Print a saying on the card stock, and cut out.
- Glue to the wooden craft pick.
- Glue trees to the bottom of the mug. If the trees do not stick up enough, glue a piece of foam inside and glue the trees to the foam.
- Create crepe paper ruffle, directions below, and glue inside the rim of the mug.
- Stick the sign in one of the trees
Crepe Paper Ruffle

This is easy to create and is similar to what is used to cover a pinata.
Fold the crepe paper over about 2 inches, 4 - 6 times, then cut off the excess. It doesn't need to be exact. The more folds, the fluffier it will be. The wider the folds the wider the ruffle.

Fold the strip in half lengthwise, then open. Staple along the middle fold.

Cut the edges on both sides.

Fold in half lengthwise again. Cut slits towards the center, leaving about ¼ inch along the fold.

Hold in the center and fluff up the cuts as desired.
