Have you ever thought about health claims from 30, 40 or even 100 years ago and asked yourself WHAT WERE THEY THINKING? Our Friday Frivolity Host theme is “crazy health advice” this week, so I decided to gather some of the wildest vintage health ads that will leave you shaking your head at the audacity of the claims.

Vintage print health ads with audacious medical claims: Dr. Pepper, 7-UP, Le-Mar Reducing Soap, Blatz Beer, Lucky Strike and more.

Full of nourishing malt and appetizing hops.

Ah! Nothing like the glow of health for a 4 year old and her Grandpa.

I’d laugh, but there are people that would buy this today if it were still available.

Would you think I was hypocrite if I told you I was drinking a Dr. Pepper when I wrote this post? Every day at 10 and 2 and 4 (no, not really, it was another campaign of theirs)

I’d imagine it tastes like an ice cream float, just like milk and Pepsi does (I can’t be the only one that tried that after repeatedly hearing Laverne order it)

Be healthy, stay brown all year round… and your newborn too.

But no one can stoop to the depths of misleading advertising like the tobacco industry through the years. (well, maybe Monsanto, but I am not going there)

I love Dr. Pepper and I absolutely agree that it is liquid sunshine. I just didn’t know about all of its other health benefits! 😛 These are awesome ads! I got a kick out of them, anyway.

When I am sick, I love hot Dr. Pepper with lemon. It is probably all psychological but it makes me feel better.

These are quite interesting to read. I am amazed that these practices are still done today on other products. #FridayFrivolity

I know the FDA tries but even with the FDA disclaimer on the product I am amazed at what some advertisers claim and some people believe.

These are something else! I love the age-defying fat-reducing soap, I can just imagine the angry letters to the manufacturer. xD

Sadly, I think many people would still buy it today.
